Bené Millinery is home to custom-made hats designed by founder, Vanilla Beane, who celebrated her 100th birthday in September 2019. The hat shop is a legacy business in Washington, DC's Manor Park neighborhood.
Beane’s hats have adorned the heads of such luminaries as the late Dr. Dorothy Height, former President of the National Council for Negro Women, and Washington DC’s mayor, Muriel Bowser. While Bené Millinery sells hats made by other designers, each custom-made hat is designed by Beane herself. No two are exactly the same.
At 100-years-old, Beane still owns and operates Bene Millinery & Bridal Supply, which she opened in 1979.
