Out of an abundance of caution, Bené Millinery will remain closed, for the time being, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our beloved staff. Please check back for updates.

Bené Millinery is home to custom-made hats designed by founder, Vanilla Beane, who celebrated her 100th birthday in September 2019.
The hat shop is a legacy business in Washington, DC's Manor Park neighborhood.
Beane’s hats have adorned the heads of such luminaries as the late Dr. Dorothy Height, former President of the National Council for Negro Women, and Washington DC’s mayor, Muriel Bowser. While Bené Millinery sells hats made by other designers, each custom-made hat is designed by Beane herself. No two are exactly the same.
At 100-years-old, Beane still owns and operates Bene Millinery & Bridal Supply,
which she opened in 1979.

Bené Millinery is proud to be a long-standing member of the Manor Park Business District. With the help of The Parks Main Street, the shop will be undergoing some much needed renovations!
This past fall, we made the decision to institute a new policy on drop-in visits.
We are kindly asking all customers to make appointments to visit Mrs. Beane, and/or shop at the store. Appointments allow us to plan to be there with VPB while customers are visiting. We've also had, and continue to have, a number of interviews and special events that require us to close during regular store hours.
For these reasons, please be sure to call the shop 202.722.0862 to see if we are in. Better yet, send an email to to secure an appointment time.
Thank you so much for understanding!
